Catherine has over a decade of experience counseling clients on a wide range of issues impacting the health care industry. Clients look to Catherine for practical, strategic advice informed by her deep knowledge of health law and clinical research.
Catherine started her legal career in the health law group at Fredrikson & Byron, a leading Midwest law firm. While there, she represented life sciences companies and health care providers nationwide, gaining a thorough understanding of health care legal matters, including fraud and abuse, Medicare and Medicaid requirements, HIPAA, FDA regulations, and transparency reporting. During this time, she also developed a clinical research practice, providing comprehensive legal support to sponsors, research institutions, CROs, and other stakeholders involved in sponsored research.
As Catherine’s research practice grew, she worked closely with clients on issues relating to clinical trials, such as informed consent, IRB considerations, patient privacy, conflicts of interest, and risk management. She is well-versed in the laws, regulations, and industry standards governing clinical trials, including FDA requirements, the Common Rule, HIPAA, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). Catherine is adept at navigating the intricacies of clinical trial agreements, ensuring that they align with regulatory requirements, protect client business interests, and foster successful collaborations. Her client-focused approach helps clients navigate the complex legal landscape to achieve their strategic goals in clinical research. By developing a thorough understanding of each client’s objectives, she collaborates to deliver results that advance their aims.
Catherine and Katherine had the good fortune to meet at the MAGI Clinical Research conference in April 2024. They quickly realized they had a lot in common as well as complementary strengths in their practices. Catherine joined Leibowitz Law in June 2024 where she focuses on clinical trials and other transactional matters, often leveraging her significant experience representing health care providers.
In addition to her legal practice, Catherine teaches Health Care Compliance Laws and Regulations at Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
